In The Woods... is what progressive rock band Green Carnation were doing during their break while Tchort was a member of the black metal legends Emperor. In The Woods... created a brand of progessive metal that blended black metal, doom metal, and experimental rock of the 60s/70s to form a sound that would later influence many in the avant-garde black metal scene. The album
Heart of the Ages, which was the bands first full length release, shows the beginnings of their experimentation beyond the typical black metal sound. They achieve this by adding keyboards, female vocals, clean signing along with black metal and death metal style vocals, long songs, tempo changes, and other things that are considered "progressive" or "avant-garde".
